What Is Old-School Essentials?

Old-School Essentials (OSE) is a streamlined presentation of the classic 1980s Basic/Expert Dungeons & Dragons rules. It emphasizes quick rulings, open-ended problem-solving, exploration, resource management, and meaningful danger rather than long character builds or carefully balanced encounters. Combat is fast and risky, so negotiation, stealth, preparation, retreat, and creative use of equipment are often just as important as fighting.
