Welcome to Barovia. You didn't choose to come here. And Strahd hasn't decided to let you leave.

The Hook: You have been pulled through the Mists into Barovia β a land trapped in perpetual twilight, ruled by the vampire Strahd von Zarovich. He is not simply a villain to defeat. He is the master of this domain, and you are his guests. Whether he wants you as pawns, playthings, or something worse, you are here at his invitation β and you leave only when he says you do.
The Vibe: Dracula meets Dark Souls meets The VVitch. Gothic horror, creeping dread, moral weight, and beauty rotting at the edges. Think candlelight in a crumbling cathedral. A violin playing in an empty ballroom. A child's laughter echoing from somewhere it shouldn't be.
The Stakes: You are not here to save the world. You are here to survive it β and maybe, if you're brave and lucky and willing to pay the price, to end a centuries-old curse. But Barovia will cost you something before this is over. Plan accordingly.
When the count of years turns back to naught, And the eye that pierces dark sees not, When the sun-word spoken turns to smoke, And the light of mages flickers, brokeβ
The Pall descends, not fierce or loud, But creeps as silence in a shroud. First vision fades, then candles tire, And faithful flame forgets its fire.
The dark is stayed by omens three: A willing heart, a truth set free, And one who faces dread and night To offer not a blade, but light.
Should seals untie and toll resound, The Thousandth Night arrives unbound.
The Thousandth Night is not a legend. It is a cycle β and the count is nearly complete.
Once every thousand years, the Dark Powers tighten their grip on Barovia. The event has no grand herald, no single catastrophic moment. It arrives like a slow exhale: first the magic dims, then the senses fail, then even fire forgets what it is for. The people of Barovia have a name for what comes after: the Long nightβ a generation swallowed whole by darkness before the world remembers itself.
The Thousandth Night arrives in three stages. Players will feel each one before the next begins.
